And lots of it. I know this may strike you as odd — me posting about good things when school starts up in one week — but there is a list, and I feel impelled to share. Of course, at the end of this little treatise, I shall ask you to do the same, for the general good. That, and your comments just make me happy. Behold, today’s…
RANDOM NEURON FIRINGS
1. Remy is improving on the sidewalk. The Thriller takes him out once or twice a day to practice, and while he still gets nervous away from the house, he’s handling it better. (Downside: he’s beginning to get a bit rotund from all the treats, despite the fact they’re only 2 calories each, and that he goes for bigtime runs in the dog park every day. We need to address this.)
2. Anne Rice has written a new novel in the Vampire Chronicles series, a longstanding guilty pleasure read for me. It’s been a long wait; the last installment was in 2003. It won’t be released until Halloween, though, bummer. Upside: I’ll have something to read on those sleepless nights during production week for the musical. Another bonus: Looks like Anne hit the mother lode by selling the series to Universal to be made into films. Yay, more Louis and Lestat.
3. Barring a significant blizzard that paralyzes the Midwest for weeks, I don’t think I’ll have to worry about making up snow days at the end of the year anymore. As my district runs “long” on the daily school hours, we should be safe under the new rules for calamity days. Yippy!
4. I have one week left to see my grandsons as many times as possible. I plan to take advantage of it.
5. I know it’s ultra-hip to not like television. We’re supposed to eschew it for going outside to play and riding bikes and gardening and sitting on the porch, admiring the beauty of nature. I get it. I barely have time for it during the school year anyway. Still, the fact is there is smart, entertaining, compelling programming on TV right now, and I have no reservations about saying I will set my DVR as often as possible to enjoy it. Thank the gods for on-demand viewing.
6. For the first time in 21 years, I have not bought school clothes. And for the first time in 21 years, I haven’t given it a moment’s concern. And…gray hair? Don’t care.
7. There’s a person in my life whom I have allowed to infiltrate my soul and wreak havoc on my inner peace with astonishing regularity. I call “game over.” On goes my Teflon raincoat. *biNg*
OK, how about you? What’s your good news for today? Lemmehaveit!
One more week?! The summer has surely flown by. I’m on board, Bird. This year will be fantastic for you! No worries and no stress. Take it as it comes, darling. Toss out what you don’t like and go on. Rah! Rah! Yay Bird!!!
One more thing – I hope I’m not #7!
Yay for us! Rah rah indeed! I am putting on the Teflon coat and dancing in the rain. (And of course you’re not #7, ya silly!!!)
I love it Ms Fink…I have for a long time now realized that life, a happy, fulfilled life, is made up of all sorts of small enjoyable, satisfying stuff. Like a small victory with our beloved dog, or fist pumping when it is Saturday and not Sunday or our favorite authors long-awaited new novel.
We all have the ginormous events in our lives, those mountain top experiences that blow us away, they are loved but the euphoria rarely lasts. I believe that the “smaller” (don’t like the word but am having a 60’s flatline experience right now reaching for another), everyday events and our contentment with those sustain us through the mundane.
As for #7…surround yourself with those that love you and appreciate the Fink that you are, those that do not, well, effffff em! I have lots of friends that challenge me in many ways on many fronts but I allow no one to create havoc in my life…ever! Try and you are outta here!
You are too special, and the World a better place because of you Ms. Fink…and before this gets too smushy icky….
I await, somewhat patiently, for my favorite author to release book #3 of his trilogy sometime in September (Ken Follett’s 20th Century Trilogy, final book “Edge of Eternity)
Peace!!!
So right you are, D. It’s like playing “small ball” instead of hitting home runs every time. The small victories accumulate and form a fulfilling life. So glad you’re a part of mine! (Should I read Ken Follett?)
I think it’s a great list and perhaps we should all do this once a week. None of this Daily Positives because frankly doing it daily is mundane (for me at least haha). But once a week or even once a month maybe.
The last couple of years I’ve “deleted” some people who have done nothing but cause me stress and did nothing but wreak havoc in my life. I don’t miss them and haven’t regretted it since!
My big good news is that my Mom will get a chance to have all of her kids together at one time in September. I can’t wait to talk with her about it later today.
Ha — some days don’t have any positives, right?? And I have hidden (but not deleted) some of those people; maybe I should pull the trigger and get rid of them after all. I never see anything they say anyway. And yay for your mom! I hope you get lots of pictures to take back to Klompenland with you!
