Je me souviens II

Here comes the Nostalgia Train again. I was feeling particularly melancholy last night, pining for things I can never have (my childhood, a chance to live in the south of France for a year, a simpler life), and I happened on some great memories. I figure some of you might have some stories or memories too, so I thought I’d post some pictures and get the fond recollections going. :-)

Many a lunch -- even into my adulthood -- featured this delicacy.

I hated these! They set my teeth on edge. I have trouble even looking at them. *shudder*

Open the door, grab the bottle.

We rarely got pop to drink, and even less often were allowed to drink from the bottle, but on the rare occasion...heavenly.

Yep, we had one.

Every bathroom in our house had one.

Mother had one that sat on a sleigh-shaped candy dish.

Mother & Dad drank their coffee out of these every morning.

So, any memories come to your mind? I love the vintage stuff and the flood of good feelings that accompany it. Those were the days, my friend…

I enjoy your Nostalgia Train posts! I still eat Chef BOY-AR-DEE now and then. It always reminds me of Saturday afternoons in Brown Deer. I remember those metal cups, too! *chicken skin*

I never wanted a Gremlin, but I had one anyway. *hanging head in shame*

Even Dad enjoyed a soda from the bottle now and then. Remember hitting the Croquet balls in the backyard in BD?

At least Mother took care of the ice trays and the Dixie Cups in the house. :-) And that creepy little elf she would put out every Christmas. I hated that thing. It was like it was staring at me before going to bed on Christmas Eve and saying, “I’m stealing all of your gifts!”

Those coffee mugs bring back such memories. Thanks for the stroll, Bird!

I knew you’d remember all those things! I also remember you and Tom having that Gremlin (although I think you had it out of necessity, and not out of choice, hahaha). I do recall playing croquet in the back yard. I never knew what I was doing — don’t to this day! :-D

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I remember every one of the items you posted. Here’s my croquet story: my siblings and I played it a lot. Several years ago I bought a set but never used it….until last summer. We kept our 5 youngest grandchildren for a week while their parents did an anniversary celebration trip. I set up the croquet course in our backyard. They had never heard of the game. Maybe there’s no video game version! I taught them to play and I creamed them the first several games. This ignited the competitive spirit in the 3 grandsons – ages 15, 12, and 8. They would not rest until they beat grandpa! Throughout the week the two oldest ones improved enough to actually beat me a few games. They were ecstatic at that. I also taught them the “poison” version. They would not knock out each other, even when they had an obvious chance to do so. Instead they ganged up on me. Hilarious! We had great fun, and no video game was needed! It was more than worth the cost of the croquet set!

Great story!! And the “poison version?” Never heard of it…you must share! Just goes to show that you don’t need anything other than imagination and a crazy spirit to have fun. Truthfully, I never had to set up the croquet set, so I don’t even know the rules myself!
