Day 14
Have you ever won anything?
Yeah — with BoomR! It was a vocal contest at some auditorium in Lima, Ohio. We won, yay. The studio experience that followed was incredible. The following year (1986), I won another competition. More studio time, more fun. Oh, to have that 27-year-old voice back…
I’ve won a few royal flushes in my day — always fun. Oh, and years ago I won a plastic box full of colorful scarves in a raffle at an elementary music geek workshop I was forced to attend. I’ve used those things a hundred different ways! They’re still in the costume shop at school.
All right, big winners. Fess up.
I won a camera from a radio station. They called me to tell me and used a recording of that in their promotions. I used to have a tape of it somewhere but it’s long gone I think.
I won a bike race in college. Moved the trophy with me all over Michigan and then out to California. I didn’t bring it with me here and wish I had.
I won an Olympus camera here by entering a photo I took in a competition and the camera was the first place prize.
Garsh that makes 2 cameras I’ve won!!
I also won the 3 billion lottery a week ago but shhhh…no one knows. heheeheh
In best Veruca Salt voice: But Daddy, I want an Olympus camera. I want an Olympus camera NOW!
YAY for us!! And a fun side-benefit of getting to work on that project at what used to be Pinebrook was reconnecting with Mark Aspinal. We’ve since reconnected on FB as well
I also played a clarinet solo in front of the Iowa Bandmaster’s Association (think OMEA but just for band directors state-wide) my senior year in high school & won a scholarship
I’ve also won concert tickets on radio call-ins a couple times, too… fun stuff!!
You know, I had no idea Mark was from Wooster!
I’ve run for public office 3 times – and won! Does that count????
It surely does!
I won twice (ok, just once):
At a family reunion we played bingo. Actually I didn’t win–I yelled out “BINGO!” because everyone else was winning and there were white elephant prizes, most of which looked pretty neat. I ran up to collect my ill-gotten prize, unwrapped it and it turned out to be a box of Jello
Another time I won a church raffle and got $2000–that was a REAL win and it was sweet!!
I correctly guessed the number of candy corn in a jar and won the jar. Guessed it on the nose.
Another time I was at Santa Anita race track in CA with a girlfriend who was using a ‘system’ to win money on the races. I was just along for the ride, and bet the first race and lost, then bet the second and lost. I had $3 left and could either bet the third race or eat lunch.
I chose the former. To this day I don’t know why.
‘Magic Star’ went off at 22:1 and for my little $2 ticket I took home $144; more money than I had ever won in my life.
PK
WTG on the horse race!
I once won a 9 inch portable TV as a door prize at a Chamber of Commerce event. On another occasion, I won a Cleveland Browns cap, also as a door prize. In high school, my junior and senior year, my basketball team won one game in those two years.
Hahaha — love the last one
