Five outta six ain’t bad

So the Emmy nominations came out yesterday, and I don’t want to brag, but I must say I was gratified to see that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences agreed with me, at least 83% of the time. Behold the nominees:

DRAMA SERIES
“Boardwalk Empire” (HBO)
“Breaking Bad” (AMC)
“Downton Abbey” (PBS)
“Game of Thrones” (HBO)
“Homeland” (Showtime) Haven’t watched it
“Mad Men” (AMC)

Also, 16 of the 24 acting nominations in the drama category are from the five checked shows above. That’s pretty snappy, I’ll tell ya. Go Joan Holloway, go Jesse Pinkman.

I’ll also mention the miniseries category, which includes nominations for “Hatfields & McCoys,” “American Horror Story,” and “Game Change,” all of which I have seen and enjoyed.

Why did I not list any comedy series today? Because I don’t watch sitcoms. Why? Because…I don’t know. Please don’t think me a humorless numpty; I just clammah for the drammah.

Banner year for Finkertainment, that’s what I say.

All right, fiends. Time to do some serious bill paying. Happy payday!  :|

Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any of the series that you have listed, but I have seen Hatfields & McCoys. I LOVED that mini-series! I also saw that Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton are nominated, along with Mare Winningham. The movie was nominated for several different things, like, best musical composition, makeup, hairstyles and costumes. I hope they win!

Happy Bill-paying Day, sweetie! I feel your pain….

How cool about H & M’s nominations. Costner’s made some flippity flops in the past, but this one, in my opinion, was one of his best. And it was for TV! It’s already on Netflix for rental.

Homeland is phenomenal. It’s worth checking out.

As for this year’s Comedy Nominations, most of them are rather unphenominal. I am continually offended by Big Bang Theory and it’s constant unfunniness. Many of the other programs have seen better days. Sadly, some of the better comedies like Happy Endings, Community, and Parks and Recreation were not nominated. I’d highly recommend the latter. It’s streaming on Netflix and is one of the funniest and smartest shows on television.

I am going to watch Homeland first chance I get. It should be on Showtime on Demand. Is it in its first season?

I guess I just have no interest in sitcoms. Most of them I’ve watched over the last 10 years or so have been of the same ilk: smart@$$ 20- and 30-somethings acting stupid — like everyone saw that The Simpsons ridiculous premise worked, so the bandwagon loaded up. True confession: I hate, hate, hate The Office. I think a lot of people watched it because it was “supposed” to be funny. It’s just people acting stupid; it celebrates mediocrity and un-caring-ism in the workplace and in relationships. I have absolutely no patience for it.

I dunno…guess I’m an old fashioned fool. Gimme Dick Van Dyke or Andy Griffith.

I wanted to mention this after watching Episode 4 of Newsroom (though it is slightly unrelated to your post). There is DEFINITELY a re-use of phrases coined by West Wing first. “You tell _____ he’d/she’d better bring more than a couple a’ guys…”, etc. I love it, though, but I’ve watched West Wing enough to be like “Really?”. Ha. Also! Sam Waterson, I love, and the bowtie is “ok”… but he forces swear words out of his mouth almost to the point of being excessive and not entertaining. I am really starting to enjoy this show and am so happy to have found it through your blog. I hope they can stick it out for the long haul as there aren’t many shows like it on TV and Aaron Sorkin is a super smart and excellent writer.

If I get some time, I’ll send you an update e-mail tonight. No time to write or even think about it, but week after next I’ll be in A-Town for two weeks… hopefully we can have tea for 10 minutes one of those times. ;)

Do you love, love, LOVE Newsroom?!?! And I think Waterston was perfectly cast, but I agree — some things are forced (especially the bow tie — who are we channeling here?). And I will say again that maybe Sorkin wanted a more “real” looking Maggie, but Allison Pill is unlovely to look at. She bothers me.

But those are little things. I like where the show is going — and talk about romantic tension, wow! Between Will/Mac and Jim/Maggie, it’s a Cupid-palooza.

Send that mail! And we’ll be out of town this weekend, but next week, I’m back at the school thing, so let’s have some tea!

Agreed. I will also say that the Economist? Who is fairly attractive? I didn’t think I would like here AT ALL… but, she was pretty funny. “You have two ph.d’s!?”… “Yeahhh… in ECONOMICS!”. ….”Hey guys, STOP COVERING YOUR MICS!”. I love me some Sorkin. So glad he’s back on TV.

OH YEA… sorrrrryy. I’m still commenting on this! Heffe is out of town and we always watch our shows on Monday nights (which we didn’t this week because it was insane!) He gave me permission to watch The Newsroom by myself because I was losing it. Even though Sam Waterson was forcing it, I watch that scene where they were all yelling at each other at the end and Will even complimented Don about 8 times… . . .
