Cool TV VIII

Well I don’t know if it’s totally cool yet, but I’m giving this one a shot this fall. New on FOX:

As some of you know already, I was a big Dallas fan way back when. This might be a kinder, gentler version, or totally different. Looks interesting anyway. Besides, I need something to hang my hat on during MM hiatus; something to put on the DVR and watch on the weekends during musical rehearsal season.

Is it Friday yet? Hork.

Here and gone

The weekend, I mean. Actually, the last four days have flown by. Wish I could have some of it back. But then we wouldn’t be closer to the end of school, now would we? I hope everyone enjoyed Mothers Day, whether functioning as a mom, a child, or both.

Last night, after the decidedly disappointing Cavaliers game (why a 6′ 1″ Celtics player was allowed to get 18 solo rebounds, I’ll never know), I watched one of my Mom’s Day gifts — This is It, the Michael Jackson movie. Impressive. He really still had most of his moves at 50, although the Thriller and I both noticed that a bit of the pizazz had mellowed. I know I couldn’t have kept up, though.

What struck me was how he got what he wanted out of the band, the singers and the dancers without once exhibiting “diva” behavior. I like that in an artist. The fact that everyone, including his director, was absolutely sycophantic in their admiration and devotion to him probably made it unnecessary, admittedly. Still, it was a pleasure to watch how what was in his brain translated to the stage. Watching the interviews with the dancers at the beginning showed what an impact MJ had on millions. There has never been anyone like him, like him or not.

Time to get back to reality, however. Performances coming up…

Did everyone have a lovely weekend?

Things that make you go…

what the –?

So, Mad Men star Vincent Kartheiser is in the news — for getting rid of his bathroom commode, and almost everything else. Living off the fat of the land, as it were, on a nondescript street in LA, Kartheiser has given away his car, dozens of expensive gifts, and every mirror in his house (a place he describes as “just a wooden box”). I am not making this up. Since he has thrown away his own toilet, he is relegated to using his neighbor’s, “for now.” [warning: profanity galore]

What the…?

But no matter. I still love MM, and am looking forward to 25 July, when Season 4 drops. Yay! I’ll be in San Bernardino that night.

The Wigwam Motel had better have AMC…

Hotel

Remember that TV series from the 80s? I liked it.

Yesterday, I finalized all our lodging for the Route 66 Odyssey. Took me 12 hours. The Thriller and I are both getting bigtime excited for the journey. Hotels will be our life, with the occasional laundromat thrown in. And we’re long on variety, too, in an effort to experience some off-the-beaten-path Route 66 gems and other quirky, cool places, in addition to the mainstream chains. Oh, the places we’ll go!

Behold the stops along the way, and some on the way back home:

  1. Red Roof Inn – Joliet, IL
  2. Budget LodgingSt. Clair, MO
  3. Munger Moss Motel – Lebanon, MO
  4. BoomR and BluVox’s Paradise – Dallas, TX – the nicest resort of them all
  5. Days Inn – Austin, TX
  6. Sleep Inn – Amarillo, TX
  7. Rodeway Inn – Gallup, NM
  8. America’s Best Value Inn – Needles, CA
  9. Wigwam Motel – San Bernardino, CA
  10. Orleans Hotel & Casino – Las Vegas, NV
  11. Canyon Country Inn – Williams, AZ
  12. Super 8 – Denver, CO
  13. La Quinta Inn – Omaha, NE

That’s a partial (but almost complete) list. More will appear when plans to visit Mom of Thriller firm up. Do you think we’ll be sick of living out of a suitcase after 2+ weeks? I think I’ll love it.

But for now…it’s Mondayne, and time to go to school. Yay.
