Are we there yet?

Is it here? Is this the day? Is this what I’ve been waiting for all summer long?

Why yes, it is, darlings. It’s the first day of school. :-)

And I’m late, so I gotta git. It’s been fantastic spending the summer with you. And now I have to go act like a responsible adult, and put in some quality time with 225 of my closest friends.

I will surely give an update tomorrow morning. But for now, I believe it’s time for me to fly….

Fink, signing (and taking) off

Have a day!

Stark reminder

Had a meeting with my pal Stoney yesterday. We pretty much got September’s rehearsal schedule done. By the time I left for home, it dawned on me: summer’s really over; time to think about getting serious.

The second half of this summer has been fabulous (first half, not so good, but hey – everything happens for a reason). I’ve spent time with the grandchildren, my friends, and my awesome fam. For the first time in many years, I’ve taken time to enjoy myself over the summer, instead of being chained to this box twelve hours a day, doing research and writing papers. Icky.

One more semester of that nonsense, and I am done. I will never take another grad course as long as I live. (That’s the plan, anyway.)

So for the next two weeks, I’m heavy into score study, transcriptions & transpositions, and updating choir tour accounts. I plan to hold down the sofa for the weekend and work on the laptop. Sounds like fun, eh?

To the people with real jobs: it’s almost Friday. :-)

The Lunch Bunch loses one

Our pal Les (who posts as “Mathman” here on RtB) is leaving after 10 years with the district. We had a little gathering today at the usual watering hole (the teacher lounge) to say bon voyage to him.

Best wishes, Mathman! Knock ’em dead in Arizona.

The most awesomely cute desert cake (and I do mean desert, not dessert).

L-R: Stein, Deb, Krista, Stoney, and the Mathman

*yawn*

There is not enough coffee in this world.

Welp…here we are. First exam today (music ed.). Thank you to all my Finkville fiends who sent me text messages and emails of encouragement and well-wishes. You are the beast.

Tomorrow is music theory and musicology. I think I stand a better chance at passing (one of) those. That’s the hope, anyway. I told a friend last night that I’m not unprepared; I’m under-prepared. Shame on me for trying to pull it all off during Dinner Theatre rehearsals. But, a fink’s gotta do what a fink’s gotta do.

I’ll see you on the other side — me and Gloria Gaynor.

Fink out (the door to Akron)

Another one in the books

And a good one it was. Among the best, actually. Maybe really, reeeeeally near the top of my list of all-time favorite shows. Maybe the #1 favorite. Great show, everyone.

On a personal note — I totally enjoyed playing in the pit with #1 Son and Lars (and Drew, too). What a hoot.

OK, so Saturdays are a long haul with this production. We’re all stuck at the school from around 1 p.m. – 10 p.m. with a long wait in between each show. That makes for some interesting choices for the passage of time.

I also noticed that *some people* saw my unattended camera as an irresistible temptation. AHEM. You know who you are, my little felons.

Anyway, here are some “backstage” photos. I hope to have some YouTube stuff for viewing later on. To cast and crew: job well done. Your audiences loved you. And P.S. – thanks for the pretty posies and the Starbucks card! I’m going to spend it soon; like maybe, right meow.

Photos are clicky:

Strange ritual involving slapping the floor.

These children, stealing my camera? No way.

Hmmm.

Awesome crew.

Don't know, don't wanna know.

Trev and Travis, in character

This is why they put musicians in a place called a pit. They're pigs.

A beautiful face, destined for the post office wall.

Our seniors - thanks for everything!

Sophomores - George, fuh cripesake...sheez.

Next year's seniors - I heart them.

The whole circus. Amazing kids.

And now, my fiends…back to studying. Fer rill.

Fink out.
