Yep, pretty much. What I found was that I could do lots of neat things…for half of what I’m making now.
I wish money wasn’t the be-all, end-all issue here, but sadly, it is. I am on the Badass Teachers Assoc. Facebook page, and someone asked us about salary. Teachers from around the country started posting their salaries, and I have to say I was mortified.
Virginia: $49K, masters + 30
Arkansas: $50K with a masters and 20 years experience

I didn’t post mine because I was embarrassed. Then a NY state teacher posted hers: 15 years in, $85K. Haha.
Anyway, you’re right. I’m sad right now because of all the crap going on in public ed., but I’m happy that I have a job, and I should count my blessings because I have it better than many.
Anything interesting? Usually you end up trading one set of problems for another.
