Various & Sundry XIV

Today, I confess some things; it’s good for the soul every once in awhile. Behold, my partial list. Some may shock and offend. You have been warned.

1. I think Miley Cyrus is homely. Always have. Does that make me a mean person?

2. As pervasive and “fun” as it’s become recently, especially on the high school and undergrad circuit, I freaking cannot stand beat-boxing. Even when it’s done like this:
Online Beatboxing Champion

(This, however, is still an all-time favorite.)

3. My biggest hangup is the fear of looking old. I know; I am shallow and vain. And shallow.

4. After Johnny Carson retired in 1992, I never again watched the Tonight Show. Not even once.

5. I am a singer by profession, but I never, ever sing in the shower. I rarely sing at home.

6. If this is the best singing talent Britain can find, I think they need to look harder.

7. I have never seen the movie ET in its entirety. (But I have watched Sweeney Todd eleven times.)

And that’s all I will sing about today. All right — your turn. Let’s have ’em. Confession time (please keep them to the non-felonious variety).

The power of Fink compels you.

I am with you 100% on items 1-6 (esp. 6 – what is it with people that are ga-ga over her???) But while I’ve seen ET twice, I’ve also fallen asleep twice on Sweeney Todd.

I’m off to breakfast & then to Wallgreens for some “liquid fountain of youth” for my beard (read: Just for Men). The LAST thin I wanna do is look my age right now… Oh, lordy – a week from today I hit the half-century mark & my parents will be here for the weekend.

Just shoot me now & get it over with….

You will do fine, sweety! And remember…50 is the new 30. At least that’s what I’m banking on! I love you!

#2: What the flautist did has been done by Ian Anderson for years. Anderson pioneered ‘jazz flute’ and is still a huge fave of mine.

#1: It has been reported that at the ripe old age of 16, Ms. Miley Cyrus has developed laryngeal nodes, no doubt from incorrect singing technique. How can she have that much $$ and not get a decent singing teacher?
    Ans: It’s NOT ABOUT TALENT.

As for Boyle – ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and ‘AI’ is about as phony-baloney as it can get. See above. ’nuff said.

Lastly, graduates of Duke University are the biggest group of intolerable, know-it-all, unmitigated, unconscionable, self-serving snobs on the face of the planet.

    There. I’ve said it.

    Ainsi sera; groigne qui groigne.

Ah yes, PK. Let ’em say it, cuz they’re gonna anyway.

It doesn’t surprise me that Miley has nodes. I have not heard of Ian Anderson (that makes me a Floot Loop, don’t it?).

What’s up with Duke? Somebody make you mad? Gimme some names. I’ll drive down to NC and put the hands on ’em. Slash they tires.

HA! That is amazing! If only *all* the beat-boxing I’ve heard was done that well. That’s really exceptional talent. Loved Beardyman’s Justin Timberlake impression – wow! And I had to laugh at all the shots of the flute player poundin’ down the Heinies…LOL

Thanks for posting that, Suz! Awesome vid.

Glad you enjoyed it! I became obsessed with the flute player’s pants though–I was sure they were going to fall down! LOL

I have a British friend who can’t stand Charlotte Church. He calls her “the quivering chinned wonder.” I’m a bit more sympathetic to Susan Boyle. Ok, we know she’s not operatic quality. But, frankly, I loved the video of her first appearance when she came out looking frumpy and uncomfortable, the judges and audience rolling their eyes and fully prepared to make fun of her and THEN she sang! And they weren’t laughing then.
This is a woman who lives in the crummiest spot in Scotland, has learning disabilities, had a few voice lessons and probably learns her songs through karaoke (gee, now that’s real talent!!–heard that rubbish on the cruise ship!) Within a year, she may be forgotten but at least she’s had some time in the spotlight. There are, I’m sure, more talented people in Britain but in this case, I think they’re rooting for the underdog!

Right Greggy – agree with it all. I love rooting for the underdog as well (I’m a Cleveland sports fan; need I say more?). I just think her appearance was so unmatched with her very pretty voice, it threw people off. But she’s not amazing.

I can say that the Beatboxing flute player is the best thing I have seen on youtube. I keep on watching it over and over again. Thanks for Sharing.

I think Miley looks pretty good knowing who her father is…. I have always hated the Britney Spears thing. I don’t get what is apparantly attractive about that trashy thing. I watch the tonight show periodically, and I love the headliners. (Look them up, you’ll thank me later.)
