Day 13
Tell about a secret career desire. What job would you love to have?
I’ve always wanted to do voice-over work for TV and radio commercials. You know, like sing jingles and read ad copy. (BoomR and I recorded some jingles back in the eighties, and it was a blast.) In fact, in 2007, I contacted an agent in Cleveland, and he told me to send him some recorded samples of my work. Alas, I started my doctoral stuff and lots of things got pushed off the priority table.
Who knows…I still might do it. I mean, what easier job, right? Show up to a studio in a sweatshirt and jeans, do what you do, collect the check. All I need is a recording. Gotta phone somebody about that.
How about you? Ever think, “Hey, I’d like to do that”?
When I was growing up I always thought it would be cool to be a doctor. I used to spend hours putting bandages (pieces of tape) on my dolls. Way too much schooling and not enough smarts for me to pursue that career though!
However now that I know what the schooling and job duties are for an EMT or Paramedic I realize that probably could have been a career for me.
Funny thing is that is the career that my son is pursuing. I never even told him about my thoughts about such things until a year ago!
My dream job was to be an imagineer at Walt Disney World. I had all kinds of ideas for park experiences, rides etc.
Awesome — I’d love to be paid what those guys make just to sit around and think up stuff. Same for comedy writers. That’s another job I thought I could actually pull off.
I would love to be the Band Leader for Late Night with Conan…
I always wanted to have Andy Richter’s job. Sit there and laugh at what Conan says? I can do that, easily.
I always wanted to be an international human rights trial lawyer or a presidential speech writer.
Girl, you could hit both of those out of the park.
I’d like to be involved with doing music and sound effects for movies. From what I hear it can get quite tedious but imagine the end product!
My other dream would be to be a world famous orchestra director.
A Foley artist! I almost wrote that!!
I had to look up what that was hahaah
But YEAH that would be so cool!!!! A friend and I did something like for another friend that was sick, we told a story of what we’d been up to and did sounds effects for it. It was fun to do and turned out really funny. Had that, too, on a tape somewhere…..
I’d like to do voice over work for a Nickelodeon cartoon. I make a lot of dumb voices. Might as well get paid to do it sometime.
Always envied the veterinarians at the zoo or at sea world. How cool would it be to be able to touch and interact with exotic animals like that?
All in all, though, as sappy as this sounds, I love what I do. Between the studio and the occasional (paid) solo work, I’m a happy girl.
PK
All very cool!
ARGH – playing catch up!! I’m with you, Fink! Would love to own a really nice recording studio & do nothing but
a) work with various musicians on their recording projects
b) radio jingles, station ID’s, voice-overs (with YOU of course!!)
c) demos for various music publishing houses
A good buddy of mine here in Dallas does just that – EVERY day for anywhere from 4-8 hours a day. I’m green with envy!!
*I* want to go to work in my jammies every day! NOT FAIR
Hey, sometime I wanna talk to you about a weekend recording session down at your place. I gots an idea…K?
