Various & Sundry XXIV

So…Rooney slaps Gorgeous here on the wrist and says, “Now Benji, this is the LAST TIME I’m bailing you out for being so incredibly stupid and pompous as to get yourself into another ridiculous mess where you insinuated your beautiful, Roman god-like body parts onto the person of a young female. I know I told you last time was the last time, but I’m not kidding — this is the LAST TIME. And next time will be the last time, too. And I mean it!”

Com·mit·ment – the act of binding oneself to a course of action, especially for the greater good of a group. Synonyms – dedication, loyalty, pledge. Imagine that.

There needs to be a switch in your brain you can throw for “Instant Good Mood and Sunny Outlook.”

Saw this as a fan group to join on Facebook: “Don’t blame our generation. Your generation raised us.” Don’t. Get. Me. Started.

The plates. Gotta keep spinning the plates…but hey:

  1. There are still good people in the world who care about things that might just actually NOT be about them personally (my favorites of whom are reading this right now).
  2. I will get to see my grandsons this weekend.
  3. July will be here before we know it, and I will be motoring west.
  4. Starbucks is open, and I’m already showered and dressed. Bring it.

Kinda difficult…

…to do a blog post with a 2-year-old “helping.” :-)

But I had to tell you about what we found this morning. Jakey likes to sit with Grammie at the computer; we look up pictures of bunnies, puppies, kittens, and all his favorite animals.

On a “horses” search, we came upon this horrible photo:

We both felt sorry for it, and I wondered how it happened, so I traced the photo source and found an article from 2008 on the carriage horses of New York City. We saw many of the famous horse-drawn carriages while there recently. Our step-on tour guide made a rather flippant comment about how the “horses are union workers now,” and that they had to have so many hours of rest per day, and were only permitted to work so many days per month.

The article shows why that law was enacted.

I’m no on-the-fringe activist, but I do believe that we use animals for our entertainment far too often. Obviously, these horses were worn out, injured, and mistreated (through ignorance, mostly) for far too long, and advocacy folks finally stepped in. I’m glad they did.

Hey, it’s Saturday, Jake is here, coffee is hot, and Singin’ in the Rain is open on the table. What to do? Yeah, I agree. Go watch Cars.

:-)

26 hours and counting

That’s how many straight hours the Fink has been awake. How long can I go with no sleep? I think I’m going to find out tonight.

Only 5 more hours and I’ll be able to go to bed, having put in a marathon-like 31 straight hours. How cool is that?

My students seem to be having a great time. They haven’t stopped since leaving Ohio, until this brief respite of two hours at the hotel (during which time I have solved room problems, worked on other problems, and taken a shower). We leave in a few minutes for Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, NJ, which will be…um….loud. I’m an MT pro…been there too many times, and my knight has never won. Poop anyhow.

But the kids will get a huge kick out of it, which, of course, will make my night. Er, knight.

Tally ho.

RF, kinda worn out

Come on, Poseidon.

Keep up the good work, and blow the clouds back into the Atlantic when we’re in NYC.

Just give us some good news for Friday, and we’re good to go. I will take chilly and sunny, gladly. To wear a winter coat (which I will do, even when temps are in the high 50s) doesn’t bother me; feeling and looking like a drowned Rat, however, does. Keep everything crossed.

I’m starting my tour packing list. Last week I told my students to pack light; this weekend I will try to take my own advice.

Someone asked me yesterday if I will blog from New York. Of course! I will take photos and maybe even a Flip Video or two. I might upload an occasional story to the school website as well. That would be fun. A travelogue.

What the World?

I know, that was random. That is, of course, how I roll.

Happy Tunesday. I have no brain.

PS – Both of my beautiful grandsons are very sick. Puts all this other stuff in its proper perspective…

If the forecast is true, it’s going to be 41 degrees and raining when we’re in NYC. Nice.

=====

“RSVP” stands for the French phrase, Répondez, s’il vous plaît. Translation: Please respond. People ignore it all too often. If you can’t be at my meeting, PLEASE RESPOND. If something came up last-minute and you missed the meeting, LET ME KNOW. If you totally forgot about it despite the notifications…well…I guess meetings are the least of your worries.

I always tell my students: “Do not leave me to my imagination.” Telling is always better than not telling.

=====

I think there are people who don’t like not being in charge. Sorry for the double negative, but the issue, for me, is doubly negative.

=====

I think there are people who would complain if Jesus himself planned the tour.

=====

I am looking forward to hearing my kids sing in that cathedral.

If I have to deal with —best to edit here—, I am going to commit a heinous crime. Heinous. Heinous. I like that word. Anyway, gimme teenagers dripping with attitude any old day.

Blark. I hate everything. Especially rain and 41 degrees. And speaking of dripping: please, Poseidon–keep the squalls out at sea.
