Allons III

Concert tonight. Seventy 5th graders, a live band, rock and roll. How much more fun can there be for 10- and 11-year-olds? (And the aging rocker playing keys?) We’re laying on them a little Eye of the Tiger, Old Time Rock & Roll, Jailhouse Rock, Umbrella…it’s going to be some fun.

Tomorrow night, it’s off to visit with grandson #3, Mr. A. Saturday, time with the Js. And sometime before that, a visit to sister Mavis to see her dandy new telly! RD coming back to town, spending time with other friends…it’s shaping up to be an ozzum week. ‘Bout flippin’ time, ja? I hope Tuesday is good to you.

So let’s rock and roll.

Can you tell?

I’m getting ready for warmer weather. The spring-like weekend we had really stoked us up for this summer. Stoked me up in other ways, too.

I’m trying to be more organized with food while we’re both busy, so I made a menu over the weekend. We grocery shopped and made alternate plans for tonight and tomorrow night, when neither of us will be home at dinnertime. In the meantime, I received some cool popsicle molds, and thought I’d try them out. Yummy!

A half cup of vanilla Greek yogurt and eight fresh strawberries makes two large popsicles. Three times through the Ninja, and perfecto.

Just those two ingredients made these tasty morsels. Froyopops. Frosicles. Whatever — they’re lishy. I think I’ll try some with banana, coconut and pineapple next time. (Please do not quote that insipid song by Rupert Holmes; it might ruin my day. Please be kind.)

All right then, chaps. Time to make our lunches and get going. Ready to tackle another week, after which just seven remain.

Roughing it

Well, not really. ;-) The Thriller and I have finished our bookings for the Odyssey, due to blast off on 12 June. We’re staying at a couple of lodges out in the middle of nowhere, sort of; and those who know me know that excursions like that are definitely not in my standard repertoire of Stuff I Like To Do. Heh.

Our first stop of this kind will be the Lake McDonald Lodge, inside Glacier National Park in Montana. It is going to be a fun stay……with no internet access, and no television. Not that it’s an emergency, yo. Civilization during the day, but at night, it’ll just be the two of us, the cabin, the forest, the conversation, and the critters. Should be a fantastic break from the norm, and we will adore the peace and quiet without electronic interference.

But truthfully — I’m glad it’s only for one night. :-) Not that the TV thing bothers me; it doesn’t. I can do without TV. It’s that dang internet and phone access…

Anyway. I’M FINE WITH IT. Get over it.

We’re spending three nights at the Crest Trail Lodge, which will serve as a “home base” of sorts as we visit several other places for daytrips (Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Seattle). That’s the part of the trip that will be most strenuous with hiking and general walking, so we plan to enjoy some fun downtime the next two days in Oregon.

Gee, can you tell I’m looking forward to the end of the school year? Not that I’m stressed, mind. I can quit thinking about upcoming performances and budget/program cuts anytime I want…

Calgon.

Various & Sundry XLIII

Wow, this morning I woke up with a start, looked at the clock, and freaked. IT’S 6:47!!!!!!!! I’M LATE FOR SCHOOL!!!

Oh wait. It’s Saturday. Heh. Oy, it’s been a long week…

I’ve spent a lazy part of the last 90 minutes just reading and drinking coffee. It’s time to git bizzy, but not before I share some various and sundry tasty morsels. Behold:

  • I didn’t know I needed a personal brand in order to be awesome. But she really does make some sense when she says that people don’t necessarily remember what you say, but rather, they remember how you made them feel. Hmm. Food for thought. Food. Food? Be right back.
  • *munch munch* What a beautiful tribute by the late Roger Ebert to his wife, Chaz.
  • This shouldn’t surprise anyone.
  • Ooo, these are next. :-)

All right, time to get up and get at it. At least it’s Saturday and I’m not late for work.

I had a funny discussion with Stoney and some students this week, on several occasions, about weird, recurring dreams. Have you had the one where your teeth fall out? Or the one where you’re onstage in front of a huge audience, and you haven’t a clue what your lines are, or what the show is, or why you’re there — but you’re the star and you’re “on” and you’re completely unprepared? Yeah.

OK — for rill. Time to go. Happy weekend to ya!

And then, this.

So remember yesterday, when I was all crabby and stuff? I had a reasonably bad attitude when I got to school, and it really didn’t improve much as the day went on. It wasn’t anything the kids did; actually, rehearsals went pretty well all day long. It was the schedule for the musical, things at school being affected by budget cuts…it was sad all around.

And then, this. A parent stops by with a huge Ball jar full of Godiva chocolates. :-D Shortly before that, Stoney and I ironed out the details for the musical. We now have an opening date.

It’s a bit different this year (no Friday opening night, but rather a Saturday matinee, Saturday night, and Sunday matinee performance), but we’re fine with it. It’s going to work. And I got my awesome, top-drawer pit players, which makes me happy. Fiddler will be a fun show to put together.

I hope. But if not, I have extra chocolate — at least for now. Pace yourself, Finky. Pace yourself. Two a day.
