Need a break?

Take one from Facebook and all other social media for the day. Because there’s a lot of useless hatred there lately.

I don’t have time this morning to delineate the reasons why I abhor the idea of denying rights to those who commit their so-called “vices” <note sarcasm> publicly, while freely and unreservedly granting them to those who might keep their sins (gossip, lust, envy, adultery, greed, pride, hatred) more private.

I don’t have time to discuss my aversion to the cherry-picking nature of some believers (and make no mistake, I am a believer) who are so caught up in the religious version of Manifest Destiny that they are blind to all forms of divergent consideration or rational discourse. Despite the 50+ translations of the scriptures, and centuries upon centuries of disagreement on its specific meaning on many subjects, and dozens of splinter Christian denominations that interpret the bible differently (while all claiming to be right), the bible is clear on everything, and the version on your night stand is the right one.

Not in my neighborhood.

I don’t have time to address anything more this morning, so I won’t, other than to say the Law here is my law, and I like it that way. There is peace here because this ain’t Usenet or Facebook. And that’s the way it stays.

This believer says “equal marriage rights for all.” End of story.

Don’t you hate it when…

1. you *could* actually go back to bed and sleep, but you can’t? The obligatory post-show head cold has arrived, and I’m slogging through coffee I don’t want to try to wake up from the NyQuil hangover I definitely don’t need.

2. you type out an entire post, and WordPress gives you an error and everything goes away without being saved? Oy.

It’s OK, though. It’s all little stuff. I was fortunate to have a long weekend following a good show, which was great, thanks to the weird spring snowstorm. I do remember being stranded in the house due to heavy snowfall as late as the 4th of April. I can’t remember what year that happened, but it was on the 4th. Yesterday, it was strange seeing the Thriller do this kind of yard work, but it was a nice day otherwise. Got a little work done, and a lot of relaxing.

Now it’s back to the old grind: the push to spring concerts and graduation. Can’t believe we’re down to fewer than 50 days of school left. This year has gone by pretty fast.

Kind of like this morning, thanks to WordPress barfing everywhere. Now we’re late for the shower and we doesn’t like it. I hope you had a great weekend; now it’s back in the old routine, yeah man…

Quiet Monday

Doot, doo, doo, lookin' out my back door.

Doot, doo, doo, lookin’ out my back door.

Hmmm. A huge performance weekend with a snow day the following Monday? And it’s almost April?

I don’t think that’s ever happened to me. But I’m glad it happened today. A gift!

It’s a great morning for quiet time, reading, coffee, and getting showered, dressed and to work on some long-shelved projects (like deep-cleaning the bathtub and cleaning out a closet). But the “work” part can wait a little longer. And I don’t have rehearsal tonight. Whatever shall we do about that?

Oh yeah — cook dinner! What a concept. :-)

Enjoy your Monday, fiends — I know I will, if only to take time to breathe and reflect on (and recover from) the last 10 weeks before going on to the next “thing…”

Allons!

Hey wait...what's wrong with this picture?

Hey wait…what’s wrong with this picture?

Go, go, go, Joseph.

After a disastrous beginning to our final rehearsal last night, we’re ready to open. (I achieved critical mass once again. I gotta knock that off.)

We’re basically on schedule. It’s been a grueling rehearsal run, but as a cast member said on Facebook last night, it’s gone quite fast. Mid-January music rehearsals seem like a long, long time ago, though.

I remember thinking when I received my conductor’s score in the mail, “They’ll never learn all this music.” Well, they did, and now it’s time to put rubber to road.

Yikes, and it’s 6:05 a.m. Time for me to get ready to do the same.

See you on the other side of opening night. Oh, and happy Finkday – YAY!

Thursday shout-out

A big “dobrodošli doma!” to BFF Kay and Bob, who return from Slovenia today after spending three weeks reconnecting with family and friends in Bob’s ancestral homeland. We are looking forward to getting together with them when the dust settles to hear some great stories and see pictures. And Drago misses his parents, so it’ll be fun to see his reaction when Bob walks into the house. (Picture a white fluff ball, bouncing on a trampoline.)

Another shout goes to my partners in crime and fellow Finkites Stoney (stage director) and Greg (tech director), who have managed once again to both put up with my insanity and still do their jobs, without murderizing (or muzzling) me. Props! One more rehearsal tonight, then it’s on.

I wonder sometimes if my RtB fiends say to themselves, “ENOUGH already with the musical theater stuff.” I wouldn’t blame them. Still, it’s good for me to get it off my brain, and I thank you for your patience while it all clears out to make room for future nonsense.

OK, enough aimless rambling for one morning. There are notes and rhythms to kill.

Fink, doin’ work
