Need me some

boundless bliss.

You know, there are days when you feel like this:

and others when this:

squeezes down so hard, that although you’re feeling confident trying to do this:

and maintaining a positive attitude, even when it appears you’re doing this:

it ends up feeling like this:

which reduces you to this:

Ever feel like that? Shew.

Then I look at folks who have real problems, and I say Rat Fink, Rat Fink, what a donkey.

I covet your stress reduction techniques this day. I know people use prayer and meditation, which are both powerful in a personal way, but is there an outward routine that calms the beast? Ready, steady, go.

Coffee today? 10-4.

Various & Sundry XXXIV

The first V & S post since April, just because I heart you. Well, that, and because it’s 4:45 on Saturday morning: perfect time for a lovely link salad.

  • Certainly, almost anything you need to know can be found on YouTube.
  • As many of you know, I like (or dislike) words because of mouth feel. Many on this list are cool indeed, as are some of the comments. Heh.
  • I know it’s being snarky about a serious issue, but I had to laff anyway, especially at the caption.
  • For all you visual learners out there.
  • ^5 to fellow werd nerds
  • I never knew about this. Did you? My research reveals some skepticism as well as supporting evidence, but boy they sure look real.
  • And there you have it.

:-)

Welp, it’s time for breakfast, then back upstairs to the spring cleaning project. Oh, yesterday our porch swing finally bit the dust. But no worries, we ordered one of these:

Now who’s going to come over and sit a spell? DD coffee is on the house.

What was all the fuss about?

Over the last few days, after putting the Js to bed and collapsing on the couch, I watched all eight episodes of The Kennedys, a miniseries that caused lots of hoopla a few months back because of what The History Channel, in their refusal to air it, called “inaccuracies.” DirecTV rejected it, too.

Hmmm, lessee here. Boozing, wh**ing, prescription drugs and mob ties. This is news? This is scandalous to bring up 50 years later? Honestly, hasn’t this been hashed over and over in print and film for decades?

Personally, I thought Greg Kinnear (JFK) and Barry Pepper (RFK) were outstanding. I wonder how many hours they spent analyzing film footage of their characters. Right down to the very gesture, they channeled Jack and Bobby. It was completely believable and entertaining.  Tom Wilkinson, who I really enjoyed as Ben Franklin in the HBO series John Adams (and for which he won a Golden Globe) was brilliant as patriarch and megalomaniac Joe Kennedy.

The only weak spot was Katie Holmes’s accent. Lordy it was bad. Cross between a Brooklyn housewife and Scarlett O’Hara. Bizarre.

Anyway, the History Channel and other networks were afraid of accusations of right-wing conspiracy, because the show did not paint the Kennedy men in an altogether positive light. I beg to differ. I submit that the script depicted a family in a constant state of perseverance in crisis; of trying to do right by the country while failing sometimes as husbands and fathers. Hello, it happens. And for some, it happens on a grander scale. So what? Compared with what has come after, is “Camelot” that sacred a cow? And artistic license in historical film is not a new concept. Every filmmaker doing this kind of production has employed it, and in this case, it was done wisely and tastefully.

That said, I did wonder a few times: “Where’s Eunice? Where’s Teddy?” They, along with a couple of other K-sibs, were never mentioned. At. All. Never even depicted by random children in the background. Maybe it was too much story, as the tale picked up before WWII and ended with Bobby’s assassination. Still, it was kind of confusing.

But “controversial?” No way.

Bottom line: for whatever “inaccuracies,” I was completely entertained, and so very impressed with the work of the three lead actors (Kinnear, Pepper and Wilkinson). It’s worth watching for that alone. You end up really “pulling” for Jack and Bobby. Therefore, the actors did their jobs. Home run.

So this wasn’t a bona fide review, per se, but I highly recommend it. Go watch it, wouldya.

Hey, I’m off to start the long process of getting the domicile ready for three weeks of wanderlust. Yep, I be excited. Happy Finkday.

Have I mentioned…

…that there’s a reason people customarily have young children in their twenties and thirties?

We’ve had the Js since Tuesday night, and it’s been a blast. But the old bod is paying for it, oh my, my, my…

Back in the saddle again tomorrow!

RNF XLVII

It’s happened to all of us, to wit: we makes our choices and we lives with the consequences. So it goes with US Rep. Anthony Weiner, who came clean about the racy Twitter photos, but started yet another political circus that won’t likely die down anytime soon.

Um, couple of things here.

1. Is he mental? Did he think in a million years that the truth wouldn’t be ferreted out? He should have had an emergency meeting with his handlers to decide the best way to control the bleeding after full disclosure. I’m shocked that he and his people would be so naïve as to think they could hide it. Have Gary Hart, John Edwards and Larry Craig taught you nothing? Do you think these women and Andrew Breitbart could sit on a powder keg like this and not chirp? Baffling…but I wasn’t there, so all I have is conjecture.

2. Wonder why he doesn’t pronounce the vowels in his name like the Germans/Austrians do (Wy-ner), which is consistent with the surname’s origin. Wouldn’t that have been easier on him his whole life? I guess it wasn’t his choice. Regardless…awkward for him right now. Eek.

I have one of those drinky tests today, where they make you swallow this nasty cocktail, then monitor you for three hours on how you react to its ingredients. Today is lactose, I think. Ick. It’s the last one in a group of three or four I’ve done over the past couple of months. I hate the drinky tests.

Man, for a minute there, I thought the Indians were going to keep winning and actually give us something to cheer about. What a relief that things are now back to normal, and we’re losing to the worst team in MLB.

================

Last night, I watched an HBO documentary on the life of chess champion Bobby Fischer. Weeeeird. I remember watching that coverage on TV. They preempted other programming to run constant footage of two guys at a chess board for hours, in complete silence. It was worse than watching C-SPAN. Or golf. Anyway, if you can, check it out. He was a tortured soul with a cornflake for a mother. No wonder he cracked up.

When I get a chance, I am going to sit down and read this story, because, as you know, real life is way better than fiction.

The Js come for a 2-day visit today, yippy! I pulled our Olympic sized swimming pool out of the garage last night and filled it with water, so hopefully the boys won’t freeze when they step in it today. Gonna be a hot one up here…

Happy Tunesday!
